I consider myself to be a major foodie. I love trying out new types of food and drink, especially healthy options. Almost every weekend, hubby and I venture out to Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s and I see if I can find some interesting items that I’ve never tried before. Some have been big misses with me, but many of them have been big hits. Here are 3 Healthy Picks that I’ve discovered and been loving lately!

1. Refrigerator Veggie Stir-Fry. I call it “refrigerator” because you can literally use any vegetables you have at your disposal. If you have veggies going bad, you can use them in this. It’s also a fantastic way to eat seasonally and on the cheap. It’s also a really simple, quick, fast meal to make, especially during the week when you’re tired and don’t really feel like cooking. This is my go-to healthy meal during the week to make because I’m usually exhausted by the time 5pm rolls around. I stick a tablespoon or two of unrefined, virgin coconut oil in a wok, and add in all my chopped veggies. For this particular one, I used carrots, yellow and red bell peppers, red cabbage, and broccoli. For a tasty, healthy sauce I combine lemon juice, tahini, tamari, and some dried herbs. You can toss this with brown rice, brown rice/buckwheat noodles, or simply eat them without any type of grains. I personally love adding in some brown rice noodles, which you can find in the Asian food section of the supermarket. It’s super filling, healthy, and tastes rich without being full of calories.

2. Karma Wellness Water in Pineapple Coconut. I found this on an aisle end-cap in Whole Foods, and it was on sale. I purchased 2 of them: Pineapple Coconut and Green Tea. Over the weekend, hubby and I did a DIY landscaping project and it required very intensive, long physical labor in the hot sun. I knew we were going to need to stay hydrated well. What’s extra cool about this water is that in order to preserve the vitamins, they are stored in the cap of the bottle. When you’re ready to drink the water, you push down on the cap and the flavoring and vitamins come down into the water. This ensures that the vitamins stay fresh, unlike other vitamin water on the market. You can see that the entire bottle is only 20 calories and there are loads of vitamins and health benefits inside of it. Not only is it good for you, but it tastes like a tropical pina colada. My husband absolutely loved the taste of it. There is also 50mg of Green Tea Extract in this particular flavor, so you get a boost of caffeine from the water. I tend to be very sensitive to caffeine at times, but this was the perfect amount without leaving me jittery or feeling anxious. Needless to say, I will be going back and purchasing more to keep in my fridge, especially for after an intense run or workout. I am in love with these now!

3. Hummus Veggie Wrap. Slowly, I’ve become more and more vegan again. I was previously a vegan for 2 years and then went back to eating meat. I’m just not a huge meat eater or lover and never have been my entire life since I was a child. I can take it or leave it. Hummus is a delicious protein source for vegan and vegetarian eaters. I like to add in some hummus on a wrap with shredded carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, and tomatoes. You can add pretty much anything you want into your wrap and even put a personal flair on it by making it Greek, Italian, or Asian flavored with different ingredients. I love making homemade hummus at home and there are tons of recipes online and on Pinterest with different flavor variations. It lasts for awhile in the fridge if you secure it in an airtight container and makes a great dipping sauce for veggies! I don’t eat a lot of grains anymore at all, but after the intensity of my workouts lately, this hummus veggie wrap is the perfect recovery meal for my muscles and body.
